Otomi Lake (Sasagamine Dam)

ABOUT

Sasagamine Dam is a 48.6-meter-high, 318-meter-long rock-fill dam, completed in 1979, for the purpose of securing irrigation water for agricultural lands downstream and for hydraulic power generation. This dam, with a surface area of approximately 90 hectares, is called Otomi Lake. The crest of the dam is a footpath leading to the Yumemidaira Trail. Mountains such as Yakeyama can be seen across the lake.

Sasagamine Dam impounds the confluence of the Ma River and the Niguro River upstream of the Seki River, and the first dam, completed in 1929, is submerged at the bottom of the lake.
